Alan Paine »Combrook« Ladies’ Tweed Jacket, Grove

Description

The sporty »Combrook« Ladies’ Tweed Jacket is a functional shooting jacket in the classic English style – robust, weatherproof, and finished with an eye for detail. Crafted from pure wool tweed, it offers a generous fit and a host of refined features tailored to the demands of the field.

At its core lies the exclusive AP-EX membrane, developed by Alan Paine to provide uncompromising protection – fully waterproof yet breathable, ensuring comfort even in heavy rain. An additional Teflon coating renders the tweed highly resistant to moisture and dirt.

Practicality is paramount: the two large cartridge bellows pockets feature retaining straps on the pocket flaps for quick, fuss-free access, while two zipped internal pockets offer secure storage for licences, a mobile phone, or other valuables. To guard against the cold, two hand-warmer pockets are positioned at chest height.

The stand collar, faced in luxuriously soft faux suede, provides effective protection against wind and weather. Additional defence comes from a front closure with zip and buttons, complemented by internal storm cuffs to seal out draughts. A rear adjustment tab allows a personalised fit, rounding off a design that is as considered as it is elegant.

The Combrook Tweed Jacket is a fine example of British country tradition reinterpreted for the modern sportswoman. Its practical field-ready detailing is matched by a refined silhouette that looks equally at home away from the peg. A stylish piece that blends heritage with contemporary performance – perfect when paired with other garments in the distinguished Combrook collection.

Alan Paine

For more than a century, Alan Paine has stood for the finest British knitwear and timeless country clothing in classic, nature-inspired hues. Founded in 1907 by William Paine in Godalming, Surrey, the heritage brand has grown over generations into an established name in premium country and outdoor style. Godalming already had a long tradition of wool working when William Paine discovered several dusty knitting machines in an old warehouse on his family’s estate. With an instinct for quality and craftsmanship, he began producing his first sweaters—garments that quickly won wide acclaim. In the 1920s, when deep V-neck wool sweaters became fashionable for sports such as cricket, rowing and tennis, the label’s popularity soared, enabling Paine to open several shops, including a London store. Among its distinguished patrons was Edward VIII, then the Prince of Wales, whose preference for bespoke knitwear left a lasting mark on the brand’s reputation. During the Second World War, Paine supplied the British armed forces, with the Royal Navy in particular valuing the durability of his sweaters. After the war, Alan Paine took over the family business, steering it with foresight into a new era. By the late 1960s, for marketing reasons, Paine’s of Godalming became W.F. Paine Ltd., and eventually Alan Paine Knitwear Ltd.—a name that, to this day, remains synonymous with exceptional countrywear and refined knitwear craftsmanship.
