Description
Classically crafted as a double-face scarf, one side features an opalescent paisley pattern on elegantly shimmering silk, while the reverse is made of the finest cashmere wool for pleasant warmth and luxurious comfort.
The term »paisley« derives from the town of the same name in western Scotland, which was a well-known centre for textile manufacturing in the mid-19th century and whose weaving mills used the pattern for their scarves. The fine scarves with the distinctive pattern quickly became a favourite accessory of Queen Victoria and thus a must-have for fine English society.
However, the origins of the pattern date back even further: Known in ancient Persia as the »buta«, the stylised motif symbolised a shoot of the date palm – a life-giving emblem and a mark of prosperity and status. Over the centuries, it made its way from India to Europe, becoming an integral part of the refined wardrobe.
