The GunDog Affair »Hawick« Men’s Reversible Coat

Description

The »Hawick« men's coat combines classic style with modern reversible design, making a bold statement with the traditional Black Watch tartan. Crafted from premium materials that unite functionality and comfort, this is the ideal outerwear for chilly days – whether out in the countryside or on a city stroll.

Material & craftsmanship

The outer fabric is made of a luxurious wool-cashmere blend woven by the renowned Italian mill Lanificio di Pray. This heritage manufacturer is celebrated for its expert handling of natural fibres such as wool, cashmere, and silk, giving the coat its exceptional softness and longevity. The reverse side features a 320 g/m² cotton fabric from the English mill Brisbane Moss in West Yorkshire. For over 120 years, this mill has produced some of the finest cottons, known for their durability and superb quality.
The coat is made in a small, family-run workshop in the Aragon region of Spain, which boasts a history of over 100 years. Here, traditional craftsmanship meets meticulous precision, visible in every detail – from the two practical welt pockets to the neatly defined turn-down collar, colour-coordinated with the reversible side.

Function & details

The coat’s reversible feature lends it versatility and practical appeal. The generously sized welt pockets on both sides provide functional storage, while the elegant turn-down collar lends the coat a classic touch. The collar is underlined with fabric in the colour of the reverse side, creating a subtle contrast when turned up. The refined design is completed by the meticulous craftsmanship and timeless aesthetic, making this coat a sophisticated choice for everyday wear as well as formal occasions.

Heritage & tradition

The Black Watch tartan that defines this coat’s design carries a long and significant history. The name »Black Watch« refers back to a Scottish regiment established in 1725. After the Jacobite uprising of 1715 was suppressed, the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland was dispatched to the Highlands to restore order. To unify the soldiers under a neutral symbol not associated with any clan, a distinct tartan was created. As the colours of the new tartan were deliberately chosen in dark tones and the soldiers were tasked with diligently monitoring the region, the regiment was named »Black Watch«.
