The GunDog Affair »Somerset« Ladies’ Shooting Vest

Description

The »Somerset« ladies' shooting vest blends traditional British hunting attire with modern elegance. Crafted from authentic Scottish tweed and expertly tailored in one of the last traditional workshops in England, they reflect exceptional craftsmanship and first-class material quality.

Material & craftsmanship

The fine pure wool tweed sfeatures a base in warm golden olive, subtly accented with a sky-blue overcheck – a colour combination rich in tradition and rarely seen in this distinctive form. The fabric originates from the renowned Lovat Mill in Hawick, Scotland, where outstanding quality tweeds have been woven since the 17th century. The blend of combed Merino wool and finely spun Cheviot wool creates a lightweight yet durable tweed that offers excellent resistance to damp and cold.

Symbolism & colour Palette

The subtle blue overcheck is more than just a design feature: In heraldry and hunting tradition, pale blue was regarded as the colour of falconers – esteemed hunters who worked with birds of prey. As a symbol of precision, foresight, and composure, the hue underscored the elevated status of this craft. With the »Somerset« tweed, this symbolism lives on in a modern, understated form – a detail that remains subtle, yet immediately eye-catching.

Function & details

Contrasting faux suede shoulder pads made of high-quality Alcantara, piped bellows pockets, practical side slits and horn buttons all underline the vest’s functional design. Two side-adjustable tabs allow for a personalised fit at the waist. The robust viscose satin lining adds a refined accent and features a zip pocket for secure storage. The vest is suitable for both left- and right-handed shooters; compatible shooting pads (No. 821067-821069) can be inserted on either side. Thanks to its durable tweed fabric and comfortable cut, this vest also works exceptionally well as a warming mid-layer beneath a hunting jacket.

Origin & heritage

Originally developed as a hardwearing work fabric by Scottish crofters, tweed was adopted by the British aristocracy in the 19th century and elevated to Estate Tweed. Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, and their successors helped establish tweed as a key element of refined outdoor dress. The comfortable and practical vest is one of the best examples of classic British style and also impresses in settings other than the hunt or shooting range. A sporty and classic hunting and shooting vest with which you are always stylishly well-dressed.

Collection & styling

The »Somerset« tweed pairs perfectly with other garments from the same series, creating a harmonious and stylish ensemble.
