The GunDog Affair »Yorkshire« Ladies' Tweed Breeks

Description

The »Yorkshire« women’s tweed breeks pay tribute to the rich aesthetic of traditional British countrywear. They combine the rugged functionality of classic sporting attire with elegant tailoring and a finely tuned colour palette. Crafted from authentic Scottish tweed and meticulously finished in one of the last heritage mills in England, they offer a perfect synthesis of genuine craftsmanship and timeless style.

Material & craftsmanship

The refined purple windowpane check stands out in perfect harmony against the brown-black pure wool tweed base—characteristic of a true Estate Tweed. The fabric originates from the renowned Lovat Mill in Hawick, Scotland – a centre of tweed production since the 17th century. With its robust texture and distinctive patterns, this Cheviot tweed showcases the weaving mill’s exceptional craftsmanship and is perfectly suited for use in the great outdoors.

Function & details

Lined with a sturdy viscose serge, the breeks offer excellent wearing comfort and unrestricted movement. Two slant pockets and buttoned back pockets provide ample space for essential hunting accessories. The adjustable hook-and-loop fastening at the knee ensures a custom fit and keeps the breeks firmly in place. High-quality materials and meticulous construction ensure you stay warm, protected and well dressed – whether stalking or waiting in a blind.

Heritage & tradition

Originally developed as a hard-wearing work fabric for the Scottish Highlands, tweed was embraced by the British aristocracy in the 19th century and evolved into the iconic Estate Tweed – a hallmark of refined hunting attire. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert helped establish tweed as a symbol of British rural life, and it remains a defining element in traditional fieldwear to this day.

The tradition of breeks dates back to the Middle Ages, when they were worn as comfortable trousers ending just below the knee. Today, they are a staple of hunting attire – combining functionality with a timeless sense of style. Their close association with country sports has made breeks a symbol of British elegance and practicality.

Firmly established as part of formal hunting attire since the 20th century, breeks are still regarded today as the epitome of traditional sophistication and functional outdoor wear. Their cut allows for freedom of movement, while the robust material offers reliable protection against rough terrain and unpredictable weather. Whether on formal hunting parties or in the hide, breeks combine functionality with a touch of British elegance.

Collection & styling

The »Yorkshire« tweed pairs perfectly with other items from the namesake series, creating a refined, coordinated look for hunting and country living.
