Barbour »Classic Bedale« Waxed Jacket

Description

The »Classic Bedale« jacket is the shorter version of the classic waxed jacket, designed in 1980 by the chairwoman, Dame Margaret Barbour, especially for equestrian sports. It is named after the rural market town in North Yorkshire.

It is manufactured in the proven and hard-wearing 6 oz. Thornproof quality. This waxed cotton quality is unparalleled and made in the UK through a unique »Thornproof« process without synthetic additives. This makes the transitional jacket both wind- and waterproof, while its breathability offers a comfortable wearing climate. The comfortable raglan shape allows a high degree of freedom of movement. The jacket continues to be manufactured at the company's own facility in South Shields in the northeast of England.

Compared to the »Beaufort« waxed classic, the jacket is cut slightly shorter and has a more casual fit. It features rear vents for ventilation and a nylon drip strip on the inside to prevent the jacket from getting soaked through. The lining is crafted in the classic tartan pattern and is made of 100 % cotton. Distinctive features such as the two-way zip with press stud placket, two generous bellows pockets, moleskin-lined handwarmer pockets and the corduroy collar give the jacket its unmistakable look. Ribbed knit cuffs at the sleeves round off the design.

The »Bedale« jacket can be supplemented with a warming zip-in liner and a matching hood as needed to meet individual requirements and the respective weather conditions.

Barbour

The history of Barbour dates back to 1894 when John Barbour opened his first store on Market Place in South Shields. In the emerging port town in the northeastern England, the company established itself by manufacturing weatherproof clothing, including oilskins, for sailors, fishermen, and dockworkers. John Barbour, a Scottish entrepreneur from Galloway, laid the foundation for the company's success. With its first catalog in 1908, the company expanded its global customer base and received orders from countries such as Chile and Hong Kong. During the World Wars, the company produced weatherproof clothing for the British military, including the famous Ursula Suit, which became standard attire for British submarine crews during World War II. In 1936, Barbour developed the »International« motorcycle suit, from which the similarly named jacket later emerged. This jacket was worn by many motorcyclists from the 1950s to the 1970s, including the US actor Steve McQueen. Over time, Barbour e
