Description
Corduroy is a fabric that has transcended all social classes. In the 18th century, it was considered extraordinarily luxurious and was mainly reserved for wealthy nobles and kings, earning the nickname »Cord du roi«, meaning »Cord of the kings«, which eventually became the term »Corduroy«. By the end of the 18th century, newly developed looms in Manchester enabled the cost-effective mass production of the fabric, resulting in corduroy being predominantly worn by the working class during industrialisation.
