This classic vest provides warmth with minimal bulk while offering excellent breathability – even when soaking wet. Worn over a warm shirt, it delivers the ideal balance of insulation and breathability at temperatures down to freezing. Worn beneath a waterproof shell, it takes the edge off wading in icy water, for instance when trout fishing. Worn under a wool coat, it adds an extra measure of comfort in extreme sub-zero temperatures.
The Mackinaw Wool Vest is made from the same warm wool as the Filson Mackinaw Wool Cruiser Jacket, which has protected against cold and wet weather for more than a century. Mackinaw wool is unusually densely woven, making it particularly wind-resistant and able to withstand decades of wear. Owing to its complex fibre structure, Mackinaw wool offers another unexpected advantage – it is very easy to care for. Dried dirt brushes off easily without leaving traces. To remove odours, the dry Mackinaw Wool Vest may even be placed in the tumble dryer. This vest is also suitable as indoor clothing, not only in draughty warehouses or on freezing building sites, but equally for desk work and office use. The classic V-neck does not add bulk and adapts to any style, making it easy to wear an additional layer, such as a heavy shirt or a rain jacket with a high collar zip, on top. The handwarmer pockets have raised outer edges to prevent contents from falling out. Of the two chest pockets, one is open while the other is divided into three pen compartments.
