Ombrelli Maglia was founded in Montechiari in 1854 and is still family-owned. Around 1900, there were still around 100 umbrella makers around Milan – today, Francesco Maglia is one of the last artisanal umbrella manufacturers in the world. The umbrellas are produced by hand in around 70 production steps in the small workshop at Corso Genova No.7 in Milan. From punching out the metal rings that are mounted at the end of the umbrella spokes, to making the crown from brass and assembling the sturdy sheet steel frame, every step is carefully crafted by hand.
