Pia Strehn »Der Elefant im Porzellanladen«, Rosé Blaufränkisch, 2022, 750 ml

The vinification: The »Der Elefant im Porzellanladen« by Weingut Strehn is a fine, strong, fibrous rosé wine made from the 100 % Blaufränkisch grape variety (Mittelburgenland). The grapes come from a cool site and ripen on luvisol soils with a chalky subsoil. The vineyards are protected by the Bucklige Welt hill country area in the west, the Sopron Mountains in the north and the Kőszeg Mountains in the south. At least 300 days of sunshine and a rainfall of only about 600 mm per year ensure climatically ideal conditions for the wine. The grapes ripen a little later and thus give the wine a significantly more intense aroma. They are carefully harvested by hand from sunrise until 11.00 am at the latest. This procedure serves to protect them from the intense heat of the day. After pressing the grapes, the juice is poured directly into a tonneau (500-litre oak barrel), followed by spontaneous fermentation. The »Der Elefant im Porzellanladen« is bottled unfiltered and without the addition of sulphur.Tasting notes: The salmon pink colour with copper reflections sparkles seductively in the glass. The wine beguiles with a fruity, intense bouquet of juicy blood orange, aromatic vineyard peach, ripe honeydew melon, sweet vanilla notes, white nougat, some hibiscus blossom and a beautiful herbal note on the finish. On the palate, the rosé is juicy and fresh with an elegant, silky creaminess. The finish has a beautiful combination of elegance and pressure. The acidity is wonderfully harmonious, almost silky.Food pairings: Excellent with grilled fish and shellfish dishes, beef tartare, mild soft cheeses and summer salads. We recommend drinking the wine at a temperature of between 8-10 °C.Best served and enjoyed in a burgundy glass!
