The vinification: In Sicily, the pearl-like island set in the azure-blue Mediterranean Sea, the art of viticulture has been honed for over two thousand years. This region, steeped in tradition and known for its expansive vineyards that stretch over more than 100 000 hectares, holds a pivotal role in the Italian wine industry and is celebrated for its innovation and dynamism. The diverse Sicilian landscape, from sun-drenched coasts to picturesque inland hills and mountains, provides a quintessential Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters — perfect for viticulture. The unique terroir of Sicily, ranging from calcium-rich soils to volcanic substrata, imbues its wines with a distinctive minerality and a rich complexity. Select Syrah grapes, flourishing on the sun-bathed slopes between Marsala and Agrigento, are hand-harvested from environmentally certified vineyards. In the cellar, a meticulous selection and gentle handling of the grapes are paramount. Ultimately, ageing in oak barrels bestows the wine with depth and finesse.
Tasting notes: In a radiant carmine red with violet tinges, this red wine captivates in the glass, unfurling an aromatic spectrum that enthrals the senses. The scent of ripe red and dark berries merges with spicy notes and the fine aroma of toasted wood, endowing the wine with a fascinating depth. On the palate, plum and blackcurrant take centre stage, complemented by the characteristic spices of Shiraz. It dazzles with its supple harmony and the gentle tannins that pamper the palate through to the sustained finish, marked by fruity spice. A perfect equilibrium of elegance and finesse.
Food pairings: The wine is an excellent companion to a plethora of dishes, including grilled beef or lamb, roasted game such as venison or wild boar, flavoursomely braised meats like Boeuf Bourguignon or Osso Bucco, spicy pasta creations such as Penne all'arrabiata or Spaghetti Bolognese, and is ideally matched with mature hard cheeses like Parmesan or Pecorino. For an optimal taste experience and to allow the complexity of the wine to fully unfold, a serving temperature of 16-18 °C is recommended.
