The elegant pocket square with its striking paisley pattern is an absolute head-turner. Crafted of the finest Saglione silk with hand-rolled edges.
The Paisley pattern, named after the Scottish town of Paisley, became famous in the 19th century thanks to its textile manufacturing centre. Queen Victoria adored the scarves with this pattern, which quickly became a must-have for the refined English society. Originally designed by the Chaldeans, it supposedly represents a shoot of a date palm. The pattern reached Europe from India, brought back by British soldiers.
The pocket square, also known as a pochette, has a rich history. The term »pochette« comes from French, meaning »little pocket«, as the hankie was originally tucked into the breast pocket. Initially worn concealed, it was popularised as a decorative pocket square by King Richard II of England and has since been a sign of elegance.
In the Biedermeier period around 1830, the pocket square was colourful with riding attire, and by 1860 it became a popular elegant accessory for the cultured gentleman. Nowadays, it skilfully completes the outfit and emphasises individuality.
