Ras el Hanout, Ground

Moroccan classic with a unique spicy-sweet, tangy-floral aroma and mild spiciness. The name Ras el Hanout comes from Arabic and loosely translates as »the head of the shop«, i.e. the bestseller of the spice merchant. Originally from Maghreb, this spice mixture is an indispensable part of North African cuisine. The beguiling scent of the classic, which often consists of up to 30 ingredients, evokes associations with oriental bazaars. Some Moroccan recipes even contain the poisonous Spanish fly in powder form, probably not so much because of the added flavour, but presumably because of the alleged potency-enhancing effect. However, this exotic ingredient has been omitted from our version, which has been fine tuned by the experts at Gewürzmühle Rosenheim. Ras el Hanout is recommended with tajine dishes, rice, couscous, oven squash, poultry, cauliflower and root vegetables, but also with lamb, kid, poultry and game dishes.
