The Fassbind »Vieille Abricot« is a characterful fine spirit for discerning connoisseurs. Made from the old, aromatic apricot variety »Royal Luizet«, it combines fruitiness, depth and subtle spice into an exceptional composition. The juicy apricots are processed in small batches and distilled together with their stones - a traditional method that lends the spirit its characteristic, delicate almond note.
After distillation, the freshly obtained apricot brandy is first rested in stainless steel tanks for at least two years, before ageing for a further 14 to 18 months in oak casks. During this time, the distillate develops its typical warm barrique colour and a harmonious smoothness gently accentuated by fine woody aromas. To complete the maturation process, »Vieille Abricot« is refined with a house-made bonificateur composed of natural fruit extracts and fine essences. This dosage rounds off the flavour profile and imparts a delicate, natural sweetness.
On the nose, it presents an intense, elegant bouquet of ripe apricots, accompanied by a subtle almond note. On the palate, the fruity aromas unfold in full depth, complemented by hints of spiced biscuits, cinnamon and dried orange peel. The finish is long, fruit-driven and beautifully balanced, with a fine spiciness that adds extra depth to the brandy. A little time in the glass is well worth it - the longer the »Vieille Abricot« is allowed to breathe, the more harmonious and expressive this complex composition becomes.
Serving tip: An elegant digestif that pairs beautifully with a cheese board or chocolate-based desserts. It also adds a distinctive note when used to refine sauces for game or meat dishes. For best enjoyment, serve the »Vieille Abricot« in a stemmed liqueur glass at a temperature between 17 and 21 °C - this allows the full aroma of this refined fruit brandy to unfold.

    Further details on the manufacturer

The history of the distillery goes back well over 150 years. In 1846, Gottfried Fassbind founded the »Alte Urschwyzer Brennerei« at Oberarth (Switzerland). Oberarth is situated at the foot of the world-famous Rigi and the Rossberg, on whose sunny slopes a great variety of fruit trees grow, nurtured by the local fruit growers. Today it is the oldest distillery in Switzerland. As early as 1856, Napoléon III awarded the Fassbind distillery a gold medal at the World Exhibition in Paris. Complete family trees and records show that the Fassbind family has been cultivating cherry trees and producing cherry brandy and kirschwasser from the aromatic fruit since 1395. The secret of the full flavour, natural aroma and purity of Fassbind fruit spirits has been carefully passed down from generation to generation. The people of the Swiss canton of Schwyz are proud to process only locally harvested fruits and berries. The high quality of the spirits is guaranteed by close cooperation with the farmers. The name Fassbind refers to the former profession of the family that immigrated to Switzerland from Holland in 1201 - they were coopers (barrel makers). So it is not surprising that the spirits are stored in wooden barrels. »Les Vielles Barriques«, the old barrels, provide the light golden colour of the spirits and give the brandies their unmistakable mild note.
