The Wilderer Williams Birne is an excellent pear spirit from South Africa that connoisseurs of elegant and fruity schnapps should not miss. Wilderer attaches great importance to the highest quality and natural ingredients in the production of its liqueurs. Williams Christ pears from the mountains of Ceres are used to produce this elegant and fruity spirit. The region is known for its first-class and aromatic fruit. The high-quality pears are ripened in a traditional cultivation process until they have achieved the best possible aromas and a high sugar content. After harvesting, they are carefully selected by hand, then cored, crushed and finally distilled to mature for six months in stainless steel tanks to develop their full harmony.
A fragrant, fruity bouquet on the nose with dense aromas of juicy-sweet ripened pears and a subtle hint of vanilla. Velvety palate with crystal clear pear aroma and warming alcohol, gentle and powerful, fruity, pure and elegant.
The Williams Christ pear is one of the most aromatic pear varieties and extremely popular for the production of the finest spirits. Its origin goes back to the southern English village of Aldermaston at the end of the 18th century. However, the pear does not owe its name to its breeder, but to the nurseryman Williams, who later made the variety known throughout England. The addition »Christ«, actually »Bon Chrétien« dates back to the 15th century. According to the story, the friar Francis of Paola brought the terminally ill French King Louis XI pear seeds and instructions for the cultivation and care of the fruit from his native Calabria.
Drink the Wilderer Williams pear spirit well chilled at 10 to 15 °C, but not ice cold, so that the fine aromas develop to their full potential. Enjoy it as it should be drunk in a small, thin-walled crystal glass with a long stem that avoids further heating by the hand. The characteristically fragrant Williams Birne spirit is perfect as a digestif, but also makes an excellent base for cocktails, enriches fruit desserts and elegantly pairs with fine apple or pear tarts.

    Further details on the manufacturer

Even though Wilderer Gin is produced in South Africa, it has German roots. The restaurateur Helmut Wilderer, who came from Karlsruhe, fell in love with the country of South Africa during a holiday trip in February 1994 and decided to emigrate the same year to set up a fine spirits production facility there. The beginning was not easy, because the production of these spirits was still forbidden from the times of apartheid. For decades, the distilling of grappa or eau de vie was regulated by the South African winegrowers' cooperative »Kooperatieve Wijnbouwers Vereniging van Zuid-Afrika«. When the monopoly fell in 1994, Wilderer seized the opportunity to get the first licence in the country to produce grappa and spirits. After his death in December 2016, Christian Wilderer took over his father's business and continues to run it with the same passion today.
