The vinification: This cuvée blends Welschriesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Grüner Veltliner, and Gemischter Satz, all thriving on the characteristic gravelly soils of the region. Nestled between the Bucklige Welt to the west, the Ödenburg Mountains to the north, and the Güns Mountains to the south, the area benefits from over 300 sunny days per year and only about 600 mm of rainfall, creating the perfect conditions to develop intense aromas. The grapes are harvested by hand no later than 11:00 am to protect them from the strong sun. In line with proven traditional techniques, gentle whole-bunch pressing preserves the natural juices and flavours. Following spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine matures for five months on the fine lees, endowing it with its characteristic aromatic freshness.
Tasting notes: A radiant straw yellow with shimmering golden highlights fills the glass, visually heralding an invigorating drinking experience. Aromatically, the nose is seduced by opulent notes of peach, exotic yuzu, and a hint of fresh herbs. Taste-wise, the wine initially presents itself as gentle and smooth, but quickly unfolds into a lively interplay of extracts and acidity, promising freshness and vibrancy. The finish remains invigorating and captivating - an utterly addictive experience.
Food pairings: This wine is a perfect companion to a variety of dishes - from salads and antipasti to delicate vegetable dishes and poultry in all its forms, as well as grilled and smoked fish. It also shines as a refreshing aperitif. To fully unlock the aromas, we recommend chilling the wine to a serving temperature of 8-10 °C.

    Further details on the manufacturer

The Strehn winery from Deutschkreutz in Mittelburgenland (Austria) is known for pure, straightforward and individual wines. Pia, Patrick and Andy Strehn have set standards with their imaginative rosé creations, and not only in Austria. They are already the fourth generation to cultivate around 45 hectares of vineyards with vines up to 60 years old. Pia Strehn took the lead in progressively switching the production of the classic red wine estate over to rosé wines. Today, 80 percent of the grapes harvested are made into rosé wine. In the beginning, the vision was to create an alternative to rosé wines with mediocre popularity ratings. The role model was French rosé icons that had long since reached the pinnacle in the world of wine. Pia Strehn decided to turn their local Blaufränkisch into rosé and then also to age it in barrels. The different wines stand out not only for their colour and taste, but also for the original names and labels by Nikolaus Eberstaller, which were awarded the Red Dot Design Award. Today, the range comprises six different wines, from the light »Prickler« to the statement rosé »Elefant im Porzellanladen«, which is matured in wooden barrels. The basis for the wines is always the organically and sustainably farmed red wines from Deutschkreutz with a focus on Blaufränkisch. The »Elefant im Porzellanladen« is today considered one of the best wines of its kind.
