Tasting notes: This wine radiates a deep, sparkling red with violet reflections. Its intense aroma of black currants, plums, and cherries is accompanied by subtle notes of liquorice, cedar wood, a slight tobacco scent, and gentle herbal tones. With a balanced medium body, it is extremely smooth and pleasant on the palate. The delicate hints of cherry and vanilla pod harmonise with the warm nuances of oak, lending the wine a subtle depth. Soft tannins and a slightly smoky finish contribute to its overall elegance.
Food pairings: Perfect with spicy, aromatic grilled dishes and meat, pasta and game, all kinds of well-matured cheeses and any festive roast. We recommend drinking the wine at a temperature of between 15-18 °C.
The vinification: The wine-growing region of South Africa enjoys an ideal climate for viticulture. The Western Cape in particular, located at the south-western tip of the country, benefits from a prevailing Mediterranean climate, which is fostered by the cooling Benguela Current. This ensures a pleasant warmth even during the long summer months and despite the warm and sunny weather. This balanced climate creates optimal conditions for wine cultivation.
The wine tradition in the Western Cape dates back over 300 years. The lime- and sandstone soils around Cape Town provide the ideal ground for velvety, soft, and complex red wines, mainly Cabernet, Syrah, and Merlot. In the higher-altitude regions, white grape varieties such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc often develop enchanting aromas of exotic fruits. The wines of »The Fishwives Club« are crafted through careful selection of the best grapes, winemakers, and terroirs from the world-famous Cape Wine Region, resulting in exceptional wines. Experienced winemakers hand-harvest the grapes to ensure the highest quality.

Founded in 2013 by Patrick James Robertson in collaboration with experienced winemaker Theunis Van Zyl from Imbuko Wines, The Fishwives Club proudly presents its award-winning wine portfolio featuring outstanding varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinotage Rosé, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The artfully designed bottle labels showcase fabulous illustrations of vintage pin-up girls in the charming style of the 50s, elegantly riding on colourful fish and taming these wondrous creatures of the deep. These illustrations lend the bottles an attractive originality that has garnered significant global acclaim, contributing to an impressive market success. The grapes for these wonderfully approachable and consistently high-quality wines are personally selected by the multiple award-winning winemaker and oenologist Theunis Van Zyl. He sources the grapes from both his own vineyard and exceptional terroirs in the renowned Cape wine region. Internationally recognised for his ability to showcase the best qualities of different grape varieties, Theunis Van Zyl employs the subtle use of French oak and American maple in his wines to bring out the unique characteristics of each varietal.
